After independance in 1992 Macedonia retained
the coat of arms adopted in 1946. The Coat of Arms of the
Republic of Macedonia represents the sun of freedom rising above
Macedonia, just as mentioned in the national anthem. In
forefront of the coat of arms is the Shar mountain, and the
waters of Ohrid lake. The Coat is bounded with wheat and poppy
plant laterally, and on the basis with a Macedonian national
motif, often found on the Macedonian national outfits (dresses). |

Socialsit Republic until 1991) used a red flag with a yellow
outlined star in upper hoist corner.This flag was adopted on 31
December 1946, and replaced with the Vergina sun flag in 1991. |
